Inpatient addiction care Q&A
What is inpatient addiction care?
Inpatient addiction care or treatment is when someone stays at a facility to get around-the-clock support for their recovery. During this time, patients follow a structured daily schedule that includes:
- Individual therapy
- Group counseling
- Medical supervision and treatment with detox from multiple substances includling opiods (eg fentanyl, Kratom), alcohol, stimulants, and more)
- Activities that promote recovery and healthy living
At this time Diablo Valley Drug and Alcohol Services focuses on outpatient treatment, but the practice works closely with programs to ensure patients get the proper care at every stage of recovery. Please note we wil be opening an inpatient program in 2025.
What happens if I need help with withdrawal?
We will be opening an inpatient detox unit coming soon in 2025!
Withdrawal can feel scary, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Diablo Valley Drug and Alcohol Services offers expert medical outpatient detox. This means you receive medical support to ease withdrawal symptoms while still being able to stay at home or in a safe, non-hospital setting.
We also help coordinate with local programs for inpatient detox if you need more intensive treatment. Inpatient addiction care is best for those with severe addictions, people who have experienced multiple relapses, or individuals requiring intensive medical and emotional support during detox and early recovery.
It provides a strong foundation for long-term sobriety, especially for those needing the added security of continuous professional care.
How do outpatient programs support inpatient addiction care?
Both intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and partial hospitalization programs (PHP) are excellent choices for people who want robust support while still living at home.
With IOP, you attend treatment several times a week, focusing on therapy, coping skills, and group support. PHP is a bit more intensive — it usually involves attending therapy during the day and returning home at night.
These programs allow you to maintain daily routines while getting the help you need
Is outpatient treatment as effective as inpatient addiction care?
For many people, outpatient care is just as effective as inpatient care. Diablo Valley Drug and Alcohol Services works closely with you to create a personal recovery plan, and you have access to counseling, medical support, and community resources to guide you every step of the way.
Whether you need inpatient or outpatient therapy or a combination of services, the compassionate team ensures you feel supported and safe throughout your recovery journey.
